Character Information
Name: Ratchet
Name of Canon: Ratchet and Clank
Canon/AU/Other Game CR: Canon
Reference: http://ratchet.wikia.com/wiki/ratchet
Canon Point: After defeating Dr. Nefarious at his space station, but after being attacked by Alister Azimuth in the Great Clock.
Setting: The Ratchet and Clank universe takes place not on one world, or even a single dimension, but several galaxies and anomolies and even time shifts that affect the main plot directly. And while there are numerous galaxies, most even unexplored at this time, the few that stand out are the Solana, Polaris, and Bogon galaxies. While the adventure technically first takes place mostly in Solana, it spans back much further than that.
First off, briefly, is the Polaris Galaxy, where Ratchet was originally born, on the planet Fastoon.
Planet Fastoon - Fastoon, as it stands today, is nothing but a barren wasteland, filled with scavengers and only the memories of what it once was some twenty years ago. Back then, it held a thriving Lombax population, recovering from the aftermath of a war against a race of terrible, invading monsters known as the Cragmites.
The planet wasn't peaceful, exactly, but it was beginning to shift back into a sense of normalcy - until the last, remaining Cragmite in the universe had used the Lombaxes' weaponry against them, killing half, and causing the rest to flee into another dimension. And in the midst of this attack, Ratchet, as an infant, was sent into the Solana Galaxy to live a safer life, while Angela Cross, another female Lombax, was evacuated to Bogon. Alister Azimuth was exiled for 'assisting' the Cragmite and dooming the Lombaxes, leaving the entire planet bare at the end of it all.
The Great Clock - The biggest setting out of everything. Without the Great Clock, there wouldn't even be a universe to live in.
Created hundreds of thousands of years ago by the Zoni - etheral beings that can travel through time - it was created as a sort of 'defense mechanism' by Orvus himself, after the gift of time travel was granted to another race of beings known as the Fongoids. The Fongoids, in their eagerness, abused the power to the point of reality itself starting to warp and cave in. Orvus and the Zoni created the Great Clock to restabilize time, and it was those thousands of years later that he had also created XJ0461: Clank. When the time was right, Clank would come back to the Great Clock to take over as it's keeper, in the case that anything had happened to Orvus.
But because of Clank's creation on planet Quartu, in a robot factory, he had no conscious knowledge or memory of the Clock. And for the longest time, it was believed that Quartu had been the original birthplace of Clank, as a malfunctioned warbot originally intended to serve in Chairman Drek's fleet. Whether it's coincidence or fate that he and Ratchet had been 'born' in the same galaxy, and how he'd crashlanded on Veldin of all places is unclear. Nobody's seen fit to question it.
The Solana Galaxy - Solana, as far as galaxies go, is about the biggest and most expansive galaxy out there.
With an estimation of 60 planets, and numerous habitable moons surrounding those planets, each is diverse in its own way, ranging from waterworlds, to desertlands, to ice worlds, and some just barely even standing after Chairman Drek's rampage. Veldin, being a near desert world (and rumoured by some to have once held a Lombax colony due to its structual remains), is where things take off, and where Ratchet spends a good fifteen years of his life before departing. While Quartu, on the other hand, is a dark, robotic world with few living organisms and a thick, polluted atmosphere - though most certainly not to the level Orxon was left in.
Beyond the majour worlds, and into the darker parts of the galaxy, is the Shadow Sector. This small area, while inhabited by planets still, is more set up to serve the needs of the vicious, ruthless scum that reside within - like a game show.
No, really.
The entire Shadow Sector lives, breathes, and thrives on a murderous 'game show' known as Dreadzone, with all of the planets within nothing more than its playing field. Some of these worlds are broken, defiled, and simply rotting away under the control of Dreadzone, with hardly any trace of their original inhabitants left. Once trapped within the Shadow Sector in itself, it is nearly impossible to escape. Law enforcement, of any kind, has not dared to cease these operations under these conditions, so the Sector's inhabitants are free to do what they please.
In the Solana Galaxy, one planet serves to be the base of operations, and one of the largest cities known in the universe itself - Kerwan.
From the outside, it doesn't seem like much. Just an ordinary planet like all the others. But break through the atmosphere and you have a world so engulfed by its city, there is no trace of natural ground visible. It is densely populated, with a wide variety of species, from all across the galaxy, and varying, diverse builds of robots. But even with the lack of a visible ground and all of this technology, the city still somehow managed to have plants and moss growing on the sides of their buildings, indicating that, while everything was far more high-tech and efficent, it was also not as harmful to the planet's atmosphere.
The city of Metropolis, in all its years standing, had faced many different forms of attack - the first being by a criminal mastermind known as Dr. Nefarious many years ago, an invasion by Chairman Drek's troops, another attack by Dr. Nefarious far later on, and eventually by Emperor Percival Tachyon in search of Ratchet's whereabouts. But each time the city is leveled, defiled, or destroyed, it seems to rebuild itself rather quickly, thanks to it's three trillion inhabitants.
A little ways out, there's the planet Marcadia, which serves as the base for the Galatic Rangers - the military force within Solana - and the President of the Galaxy himself. One step onto the world and it's purpose is obvious, though this city also faced its share of attacks from Dr. Nefarious some years ago. Aside from the President, however, it seems that each world has its own, smaller force of government - be it a mayor, a chairman, or simply a lone survivor with the wills to lead the pack, so to speak. Solana is not without some order, but its strength, at times, varies.
The Bogon Galaxy - Bogon, in comparison to the other galaxies, is smaller and easily overlooked - and when it comes to the affairs occuring in Solana and Polaris, it is, for the most part, neutral. However, it is not without its share of incidents.
So few planets meant things would spread easily. So when the Protopets - a genetically manufactured creature created by Megacorp - were mass-multiplied and reproduced, it was only a matter of weeks, or even days, that they ravaged each of the planets. Some worlds handled it better than others, though Planet Damosel bears the worst scars from the incident.
And even with the diversity of the worlds, it seemed as though the Protopets could adapt to even the harshest conditions. One of these includes a barren, frost planet - Greblin, and the foster homeworld of one Angela Cross.
The Polaris Galaxy - Turning back to this little section of the universe, we have the heart of a good portion of conflict stemming through the whole Ratchet and Clank saga - Polaris.
As the previous galaxies were not as touched upon due to graphical limitations, every nook, cranny and crevice had something special to offer. There were many more varying moons, vastly different from one-another, but all equally dangerous in their own way. This could range from lava worlds, to ice, to barren wastelands or even heavily mechinized surfaces. Some moons were even more advanced, and more deadly than their parent worlds at times, leading one to wonder just what the purpose of these changes were originally intended to be.
While so many planets and moons, and even stars, can have differing qualities, one thing remains the same - they all share the same sky, under the same laws. And with the Great Clock keeping everything in motion, no world is unaffected by its fateful ties. Time moves, flows, and connects, for better or for worse, giving each world, each galaxy, each inhabitant their own trials to face.
The universe does have a wonderful sense of humor, after all.
Personality: Ratchet, over the past few years, has led a pretty carefree, if not boring, life. Even with the satisfaction of having saved the galaxy once already, he always feels like he should be doing more. He's very restless, very eager, and can't stand just sitting in one spot for too long at all. Most of this energy just goes into little - and sometimes bigger! - projects - hardly ever successful, but satisfying the 'tinker' urge he's engrained with.
Over the past year, he's also done quite a bit of maturing with Clank's company now in his life. He's less tempramental, not lashing out as much as he'd used to, and even a little more attached to the people he meets. This could lead to a bit of a downside as well - Ratchet gets to be a little too protective at times, and will even threaten those who seem like they'd want to make a move before hearing them out. But he calms down quickly once things fall into place, and that cheerful demeanor is back once more.
Ratchet goes by the expression, 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going.' Like anyone else, he'll have his bad days. He feels remorse, guilt, and even anger at certain things; but it doesn't get him down for too long. Because if he sits around, wondering what could have been, then nothing would be getting done. People would still be hurting when they need a hero, and this often leads to him jumping into the action without even knowing the full situation. He's dedicated, and loyal to the bone, no matter how bad things get.
Abilities, Weaknesses, and Power Limitation Suggestions: Ratchet, with his Lombax anatomy, is by nature very swift and agile. His balance is extraordinary, he's unmatched in hand-to-hand combat when he doesn't have his numerous weapons to fall back on, though he lacks any kind of superhuman abilities. He still needs Clank to be able to leap long distances, and any kind of firepower comes from either his weapons, or the Omniwrench.
For his size, he can also take quite the beating, restoring his health with a type of nano-technology. In canon, the Nanotech is absorbed into one's body, finding the source of the injury, and manipulating the body's own cells to stitch the wound healed again. This is also helpful in revitalizing lost energy, and sometimes even making the user stronger.
As far as power limitations go, the most that could be done is disable most of his weapons and reduce his natural agility to that of a housecat. As a Lombax, he relies on weapons more than anything, so taking those away would leave him struggling for defensive means.
Inventory: Lombaxes, by nature, rely mostly on their weapons and ingenuity to get by, and it's no surprise that these traits would also be passed down to someone like Ratchet, even if he'd never known them.
Backing him up is an armada of weapons, including, but not limited to: the Buzz Blades, Chimp-o-Matic, Constructo Bomb, Constructo Pistol, Constructo Shotgun, CryoMine Glove, Dynamo of Doom, Groovitron Glove, Mag-Net Launcher, Mr. Zurkon, Negotiator, Plasma Striker, Rift Inducer 5000, RYNO V (which would definately need to be removed from his inventory if Sarosanct is to remain in one piece.), Sonic Eruptor, Spiral of Death, and the Tesla Spikes.
But barring all these off would not hinder his ability to fight, as, by default, Ratchet carries the Omniwrench Millenium 12, capable of bashing enemies heads in, turning cranks, and just generally... well, being a giant wrench.
Also by default, Ratchet's clothes play a key part in his defense as well, sporting the Holoflux armor. The suit is known to circulate nanotech based on the user's physical anotomy, offering limited, but increased defense from incoming fire.
Appearance: Short and stubby at only five feet tall and 97 pounds, Ratchet isn't like most other aliens in his, or other, galaxies. Instead of just skin, Ratchet bears golden-yellow fur with cinnamon-brown stripes along his oversized ears and thin torso, which is in perfect contrast with his deep green eyes. Ratchet has the fingers of a human, but the feet of a alien with only two clawed toes. He also has a lion-tail; one he does not prefer having shoved in a suit of uncomfortable armour.
His clothes also consist of either moderate to heavy armour, a simple jumpsuit, or just plain cargo pants. He also always wears either a brown pilot's hat or a combat helmet to over his head. He can often be seen carrying his best friend Clank on his back, being supported by either the armour or the brown leather straps going around Ratchet's arms and chest. Wearing the armor, however, Clank is attached to the back by a large magnet, that seems to only respond to the robot's unique metallic signature.
Age: 23
OC/AU Justification
If AU, How is Your Version Different From Canon, and How Will That Come Across? This version of Ratchet isn't quite canon, but I wouldn't say he's entirely AU, either. He's coming from a time in his canon that did happen, briefly, but was quickly reversed six minutes later so the event technically never came to pass.
This is only relevent for potential canonmates that may come in through the true canon timeline (Clank and Alister especially), and the differing memories that would occur.

Upon a pile of scrap and steel, there is a bright-furred animal. In the Junkyard, of all places, and seemingly searching for something within the wreckage. Casually humming to himself, he isn't at all bothered with the idea of being in space, within a spacestation, or surrounded by so much alien technology. He's right at home, with what seems to be a broken toaster, a few wrenches and bolts, and an alarm clock tucked securely under his arm.]
I wanna hear someone else tell me it's 'impossible to escape'.
[He leaps to another mound, nearly losing his balance when an avalanche of ship hulls comes crashing down below him. His free hand moves forward for support, a small smirk on his furry face.]
'Cause as far as I can see, we've got all we need for a perfect getaway right under our noses.

[Another leap of faith, this time sliding down the ruins. The Lombax picks up a garbage bag nearby, filled with even more materials, looking back to the device with a wide grin.]
If anyone's feeling adventurous, they're more than welcome to follow me. The name's Ratchet, and I'm about to bust us out.
